Reminiscing About My First Love

May is Matt’s birthday.

Matt was my first ‘boyfriend’, my first ‘real love’. In fact, there is still a teeny tiny bit of my heart, way in the back, which loves him still.

I remember the horrible childish circumstances to which our ‘relationship’ started. My best friend at the time Katie and I made a contest. Who could kiss Matt first.

Although I was pleased I ‘won’ the contest, I failed to tell Katie that I actually had a crush on Matt. Later on, I would find out she did too.

It was the summer before we started high school. We were about 13, and awkward. Matt had floppy blond hair, parted in the middle. He was tall and slender and very toned. He had friendly blue eyes and a wonderful warm smile complete with metal braces. That was Matt’s geeky phase. Sweaters, khaki pants, running shoes with the laces untied. He was strikingly handsome. Even in his geeky phase.

Buzzy Beavers

13 02 2007

Recently my work place got some energy drinks in the vending machine, and although its apparently ‘dam good’ stuff, I can’t justify putting anything to my lips called ‘Beaver Buzz’

I don’t care if its made by Canadians, in Canada, and for Canadians. . . . .the name is just plain ewwwwy.

I wonder if there is an aftertaste?  Blllllahhhh!

That’s How the Cookie Crumbles ::: Miss Fortune’s Cookies

30 01 2007

My Fortune Cookie told me:
Your therapist has you mixed up with another patient. Don’t believe a thing she tells you.
Get a cookie from Miss Fortune

 Thankfully the cookie explained it all. . . . . .

Get your own Fortune Cookie!   (As seen at Iced Mocha and Fracas!)

Never Trust Bablefish: Top 13 Worse Slogan Translations

5 01 2007

Source: http://moronland.net/moronia/moron/1064/

13) When Parker Pen marketed a ball-point pen in Mexico, its ads were supposed to have read, “It won’t leak in your pocket and embarrass you.” The company thought that the word “embarazar” (to impregnate) meant to embarrass, so the ad read: “It won’t leak in your pocket and make you pregnant.”

12) Scandinavian vacuum manufacturer Electrolux used the following in an American campaign: “Nothing Sucks like an Electrolux.”

11) Clairol introduced the “Mist Stick,” a curling iron, into Germany only to find out that “mist” is slang for manure. Not too many people had use for the “Manure Stick.”

10) Coors put its slogan, “Turn It Loose,” into Spanish, where it was read as “Suffer From Diarrhea.”

9) Pepsi’s “Come Alive With the Pepsi Generation” translated into “Pepsi Brings Your Ancestors Back From the Grave” in Chinese.

8) When Gerber started selling baby food in Africa, they used the same packaging as in the US, with the smiling baby on the label. Later they learned that in Africa, companies routinely put pictures on the labels of what’s inside, since many people can’t read.

7) Colgate introduced a toothpaste in France called Cue, the name of a notorious porno magazine.

6) Frank Perdue’s chicken slogan, “It takes a strong man to make a tender chicken,” was translated into Spanish as “it takes an aroused man to make a chicken affectionate.”

5) When American Airlines wanted to advertise its new leather first class seats in the Mexican market, it translated its “Fly In Leather” campaign literally, which meant “Fly Naked” (vuela en cuero) in Spanish.

4) An American T-shirt maker in Miami printed shirts for the Spanish market which promoted the Pope’s visit. Instead of “I saw the Pope” (el Papa), the shirts read “I Saw the Potato” (la papa).

3) The Dairy Association’s huge success with the campaign “Got Milk?” prompted them to expand advertising to Mexico. It was soon brought to their attention the Spanish translation read “Are You Lactating?”

2) General Motors had a very famous fiasco in trying to market the Nova car in Central and South America. “No va” in Spanish means, “It Doesn’t Go”.

1) The Coca-Cola name in China was first read as “Kekoukela”, meaning “Bite the Wax Tadpole” or “Female Horse Stuffed with Wax”, depending on the dialect. Coke then researched 40,000 characters to find a phonetic equivalent “kokoukole”, translating into “Happiness in the Mouth.”

The ‘Z-List’

24 12 2006

I quite often enjoy a good bout of ‘tag surfing’ to come across some new blogs. In one of my surfing evenings I stumbled on several blogs all discussing the ‘Z-List’

The idea is simply to create and update a list of blogs, in hopes of increasing traffic to your own site. Brilliant.

Although the Squidoo List is mostly professional writers and marketing/business related sites I wanted to support their efforts for increasing traffic. . . . .I love a good social experiment.   (I’ve put a button on my sidebar)

Instructions: So there you go! If you’re late to the game and want to play, simply cut and paste the long list above (or below in the case of my blog! *Joey)  into a blog post, then add whatever blogs you want of your own, and that’s it! Then whoever reads your post can repost your list, and add any blogs they want, and it continues to snowball from there! You’re doing your part to bring attention to blogs that deserve it, and turning Technorati’s ‘authority’ rankings on its ear ;) And you’ll more than likely get a whole slew of new links and a nice traffic bump too. Everyone wins!

Jesus, Satan & the Computer

19 12 2006

satan at computer

Jesus and Satan have an argument as to who is the better programmer. This goes on for a few hours until they agree to hold a contest with God as the judge.

They set themselves before their computers and begin. They type furiously for several lines of code streaming up the screen. Seconds before the end of the competition, a bolt of lightning strikes, taking out the electricity.

Moments later, the power is restored, and God announces that the contest is over. He asks Satan to show what he had come up with. Satan is visibly upset, and cries, “I have nothing! I lost it all when the power went out.”

“Very well, then.” said God, “Let us see it Jesus fared any better.”

Jesus entered a command, and the screen came to life in vivid display, the voices of an angelic choir poured forth from the speakers.

Satan was astonished and stuttered, “But how? I lost everything, yet Jesus’ program is intact! How did he do it?”

God chuckled and replied, “Jesus saves.”

I’m Growing!

7 12 2006

I like to check out WordPress’ Top Blogs, and Growing Blogs lists, and guess what!  I was on the Growing Blogs list!!!  Wooohoooo for me!

growing blog

I would like to thank Vanilla Mini Wheats for this honour, as my blog posting about the frosted goodness is (I believe) the main reason why I ended up on the list.  (I got almost 100 hits yesterday alone from that blog entry! and I believe I’m in the top 5 site in Goggle www.google.ca if you look up ‘Mini Wheats Jingle’.)

 http://joeymoggie.wordpress.com/2006/11/23/miiiiiini-wheeeats-wheats-wheats/

Earlier this week Penseroso ( http://penseroso.wordpress.com/)  was  number 13, and I wish I had done a similar screen shot because he missed seeing his name in lights. . . . .

 ***Update***

I’m moving up in the world!  Now I’m at 25! (Thursday 7th December, 10:49 am)

25th in thee top 100 growing blogs
